For Business
The Workplace Adult Education Project (WAEP) is funded by the Rhode Island Department of Education to provide workplace adult education programs for incumbent workers at their place of employment.
WAEP teaches:
- English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) to increase the English proficiency of immigrant workers.
- Adult Basic Education (ABE) to improve basic reading, writing, and mathematics skills.
- High School Equivalency Preparation (GED) to prepare students to take the high school equivalency examination.
- Customized Classes to address job-specific needs.
The three components of the Workplace Adult Education Project are business, unions, and the individual worker.
Business: In a rapidly-changing economy, employers need a workforce that is able to adapt to change. Today’s workers need the literacy skills to be able to:
- increase productivity
- reduce errors and accidents
- adapt to new methods
- communicate effectively
- understand instructions
- read personnel policies and safety manuals
- qualify for transfers and promotions
- understand technology
WAEP will work with your business to identify your literacy needs and to design instructional programs that will upgrade the reading, writing and communication skills of the workforce.
