The Institute

The Institute for Labor Studies & Research provides education and training that enables working Rhode Islanders and the labor movement to have a stronger voice in the workplace, to participate more effectively in the changing global economy, and to create a more just and equitable society.

A private, non-private educational facility, the Institute is dedicated to providing a wide variety of education and training programs that are responsive to the needs of Rhode Island residents. The Institute’s courses, seminars and workshops range from job skills training, ESL and GED, to labor education and leadership training as well as to on-line courses which are open to members of the labor community as well as the community at large.

The Institute has a rich history of designing and implementing customized trainings. The staff and instructors at the Institute are proud of their ability to tailor programs to meet any requirement. Our customized training programs vary from specific trainings, workplace Spanish instruction, job related skills training to CAD training in English and Spanish.

Courses are offered both as open enrollment, which are available for anyone to enroll, or as contracted courses that are customized for unions, businesses, or industry, and are conducted either at the Institute or on-site.

The Institute has also entered into partnership with ed2go to offer hundreds of on-line non-credit courses ranging from personal enrichment tot professional development to certificate programs.
